Anxiety at Work

I have joined Club HEAL as an official member of their staff and mashaAllah – it is a dream job. My colleague asked me, “Are you doing something you have always dreamed about?” I thought and the answer is a clear “Yes :)” Alhamdulillah, Allah is the Best of Planners, truly!

However, with all changes for me, there is anxiety. It took me about a month before I reached a calmness, an excitement to go to work, where I am raring to go. What helped me? Let’s call it the 3 S’s – Supplications, Searching for Solutions & Syukur!

1. Supplications, especially in particular, the prayer of Prophet Musa alayhisalaam. I recited this each time I was nervous before conducting a session and alhamdulillah, things would work out, and I just felt calmer. The prayer is so apt for my case.

Rabbi Ishrah Li Sadry, Wayassir Li Amry, Wahlul ‘Uqdatan Min Lisany, yafqahu Qawly.

My Lord, I ask you to expand my breast, make my task easy, undo the knot in my tongue so that my speech will become comprehensible.

From Surah Taha, verses 25-28

2. Searching for Solutions – the key for me was not to sink into despair or hopelessness or worry, but take a practical, objective and logical approach. What exactly was my problem? What would help? What do I need? Who can I approach who can help me? Discussing my concerns at work with a senior colleague and my husband too helped me a lot in my search for solutions to my worries! Alhamdulillah! I have to remember that…

Allah will not burden a soul beyond more than it can bear.

From Surah Al Baqarah, verse 286

3. Syukur, syukur, syukur – I try to remember how much I want to be in this job, how this job suits me, how the colleagues are so nice, how I treasure it when the peers of Club HEAL seem to enjoy my company and my sessions and are generally always warm and understanding and content. Alhamdulillah for their lovely, gentle, welcoming nature!

[Remember the time] when your Lord promised, “If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more and more.

From Surah Ibrahim, verse 7

I also learnt that nothing beautiful comes easy, and working hard is part of life, accept it and do the best I can. So now, I smile as I write this, thankful to Allah, thankful for all blessings.
